This is our best contact mic to date. It is the fruit of almost 7 years of designing contact mics, listening to customer feeback, performing research, and testing dozens of designs. Metal Marshmallow Pro is the clear winner. It features
- Built-in preamp: Other high-end contact mics require you to buy a separate preamp, often for an exorbitant price. Metal Marshmallow Pro has a builtin preamp that was specifically designed for this purpose. It boosts the signal and solves impedance-matching issues associated with homemade contact mics. Metal Marshmallow Pro's preamp is completely redesigned relative to Metal Marshmallow II.
- Adjustable gain: from 0 to 34 dB. This allows you to record a wide range of sounds from loud to soft with optimum noise performance.
- Very low noise: even at high gain.
- +48V Phantom Powered: Since the preamp is powered by your mixer or audio interface, it dosen't require batteries or any other power source.
- Excellent bass response: Most other contact mics are just piezo discs soldered onto guitar cables. As a consequence, they have very poor bass-response, giving them a tinny sound. Marshmallow's built-in preamp that solves this, giving it a full, rich sound.
- Impervious to hum: Contact mics and amplifiers act as small antennas that pick up tons of electromagnetic radiation which can be heard as loud humming, buzzing, and clicking in the audio signal. Metal Marshmallow Pro was carefully constructed with a shielded aluminum housing, so the signal is hum-free at all times.
- Balanced Output: so that the cable does not act as a antenna to pick up additional hum or unwanted electromagnetic sounds. This keeps you audio nice and crispy clean even if you are using a very long cable.
- XLR audio connector: This makes the mic compatible with any standard mixer, USB audio interface, or field recorder that accepts microphone input and supplies Phantom Power.
- Small Size 33 x 23 mm (Metal Part). This allows you to stick the microphone almost anywhere.
- 6 feet of audio cable: This gets the bulky XLR connecter out of the way.
- Very wide frequency range: Metal Marshmallow Pro can record sounds ranging from the from subsonic to the supersonic.

Note that this mic requires additional hardware in order to operate. It must be plugged into a device such as a mixer, audio interface, or field recorder that provides +48V Phantom Power. Such a device is not included.
This device is not suitable for acoustic monitoring of your submersible's carbon fiber hull.
