Description
Dr. Squiggles is a rhythmic tapping robot. It uses solenoids to tap rhythms on whatever surface it happens to be sitting on. The solenoids are connected to an internal computer that it uses to decide what rhythms to play. Dr. Squiggles also listens to rhythm through a contact mic so you can tap rhythms on any surface and it will play along with you. The robot's construction is documented in a Make Magazine article. This also contains 'getting started' instructions.
The software that comes pre-installed on the robot is open-source and is contained in two repositories.
The theory of operation of the software is documented in a scientific paper published in the Journal of New Music Research

Why I am Selling This
If you have tried to buy a microphone from me recently you will notice I am often sold out. That is due to ongoing supply-chain issues with the aluminum housing. I want to buy a milling machine so I can make those myself which would allow me to stay in stock all of the time and possibly reduce the cost of the mics. So I am selling this robot for the sole purpose of raising money for that.
Contains:
- 1 Dr. Squiggles Robot
- 1 While (Lower Gain) Metal Marshmallow II Contact Mic
- All cables required to connect the mic to the robot
- 60W power supply with EU-style plug
- Free shipping anywhere in the world
Notes:
- If you live in a country that does not use EU style plugs (for wall power) you will need to purchase an adapter separately
- This robot is 'used' in the sense that I have been carrying it around and showing it as art at events
- The robot is being sold in as-is condition and there are no planned software updates or forthcoming documentation beyond what already exists, and no tech support.
- The robot does not come with a glockenspiel as is frequently seen in my videos.
- The robot is not a toy, it needs special skills to operate, and is not suitable for children.
